The FZS envi­ron­men­tal edu­ca­tion team recent­ly com­plet­ed a study tour of par­tic­u­lar Ger­man pro­tect­ed areas which excel in envi­ron­men­tal edu­ca­tion and trans­ferred their learn­ings to the employ­ees of Carpathi­an pro­tect­ed areas through two-day sem­i­nars held on-site in the Carpathi­ans.

Successful Thermo-Modernization of Buildings even in Times of War

As of Decem­ber 2023, 6 mul­ti­a­part­ment build­ings in Sykhiv dis­trict of Lviv with the home­own­ers’ asso­ci­a­tions were ful­ly mod­ern­ized under the “Ener­godim” pro­gram of Ener­gy Effi­cien­cy Fund – with the sup­port of the project. Con­struc­tion works at 3 of them were end­ed in 2022–2023 under the con­di­tions of full-scale war in Ukraine.

Filling Data Gaps of the Lynx Research in Ukraine

FZS’s researchers con­duct­ed the first spa­tial­ly-explic­it cap­ture-recap­ture of lynx using cam­era traps. Near­ly 3 years of work, 100s of cam­era traps, 100,000s of cam­era trap pho­tos, and dozens of spe­cial­ists were need­ed to make this hap­pen.

Translating the Benefits of Green Investments into Actionable Steps for Ukraine

The “Shades of Green” dis­cus­sion on Ukraine’s green recov­ery, orga­nized by the Ukrain­ian Cli­mate Office, WWF Ukraine, and CEE on Novem­ber 21st, high­light­ed the impor­tance of green invest­ments. With around 50 par­tic­i­pants from nation­al and inter­na­tion­al cli­mate pol­i­cy stake­hold­ers, the event aimed to trans­late the ben­e­fits of green invest­ments into action­able steps for Ukraine.

New Steps taken towards the new «Renewables for Resilient Ukraine» Project

The project “Renew­ables for Resilient Ukraine” aims for 16 Ukrain­ian com­mu­ni­ties to receive grants of 30k – 50k EUR to install solar pow­er sys­tems or heat pumps in pub­lic build­ings: schools, hos­pi­tals, kinder­gartens etc.

This has been real­ized by the con­sor­tium of NGOs (Eco­club, Eco­dia, Ener­gy Act For Ukraine Foun­da­tion, RePow­er Ukraine) in polit­i­cal part­ner­ship with the Min­istry of Infra­struc­ture and the Min­istry of Ener­gy. Cur­rent­ly, the grant agree­ment with NGOs has been signed and a tech­ni­cal con­cept for the project has been devel­oped.

Coordination Meeting of NGOs and Members of the Rebuild Ukraine Green Platform

Pri­or to the 3rd Ger­man-Ukrain­ian Ener­gy Day, Deputy Head of the Low Car­bon Ukraine project Pavel Bilek attend­ed the coor­di­na­tion meet­ing of NGOs and mem­bers of the Rebuild Ukraine Green plat­form. Dur­ing the full-day event, the par­tic­i­pants dis­cussed the major oppor­tu­ni­ties and obsta­cles for Ukraine’s recon­struc­tion and the need to ensure green prin­ci­ples and sus­tain­abil­i­ty are pri­or­i­tized in any rebuild­ing activ­i­ties.

German-Ukrainian Energy Day 2023

The annu­al Ger­man-Ukrain­ian Ener­gy Day with­in the frame­work of the Ger­man-Ukrain­ian Ener­gy Part­ner­ship strength­ens the part­ner­ship between Ger­many and Ukraine, facil­i­tat­ing strate­gic engage­ment, knowl­edge exchange, and busi­ness oppor­tu­ni­ties with­in the ener­gy sec­tor. This year’s event was held in Berlin on the 25th of Octo­ber. Dur­ing the event, Robert Kirch­n­er, Team Leader of the Low Car­bon Ukraine project, par­tic­i­pat­ed in a pan­el on “Strength­en­ing Frame­works for Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment and Mar­ket Inte­gra­tion of the Ukrain­ian Ener­gy Sec­tor”.

Intensifying German-Ukrainian Climate Cooperation in Times of War in Ukraine

The work­shop, held on 27 Feb­ru­ary 2023 in Berlin and as a vir­tu­al event, was titled “IKI Imple­men­ta­tion in War Times – Under­pin­ning Ukraine’s Green Recon­struc­tion with Ambi­tious Cli­mate and Bio­di­ver­si­ty Pol­i­cy and Action”, and saw Ukrain­ian IKI projects dis­cussing these issues togeth­er with polit­i­cal part­ners from Ger­many and Ukraine.
