The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) together with the IKI Project “Capacities for Climate Action/Ukrainian Climate Office” are pleased to share the final documents referring to the results of their joint event on green criteria for the recovery of Ukraine, available both in English and Ukrainian. Russia’s war against Ukraine has inflicted widespread devastation on Ukraine, presenting an urgent need for extensive reconstruction. Recognizing this challenge as an opportunity for transformative change, there is a growing call to pursue a “green” approach to reconstruction that extends beyond focusing solely on energy and construction matters, encompassing broader consideration for a sustainable economic development including biodiversity, climate, social factors, and market dynamics. What does this mean exactly and what does green reconstruction shall mean in general for Ukraine? This briefing paper tries to provide answers by presenting its benefits and certain recommendations for a comprehencive green recovery.
