A unique training on greenhouse gas emissions verification based on EU standards has started in Ukraine. For the first time, Ukrainian companies can test first-hand verification procedures long used across EU.
As Ukraine moves towards European market integration, it is required to adopt modern monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) rules for emissions.
Last week, INTERPIPE STEEL and Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine hosted three-days practical trainings on emissions verification.

The training brought together: German verification expert Rainer Winter, accreditation representative of the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine (NAAU), nine verifiers from ten accredited Ukrainian verification bodies, representatives of Budgetary Institution “National Inventory Center”, and GIZ Project team.
Key outcomes:
— two enterprises gained early access to EU verification practices;
— Ukrainian verifiers enhanced their professional qualifications and practical skills.
— enterprises are now better prepared for GHG monitoring, mandatory annual reports, and future integration into the EU climate policy framework.
The training is part of the project “Support for the establishment of an emissions trading scheme (ETS) in Ukraine”, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
