From August 25 to September 3, 2025, the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, in cooperation with the GIZ project “Best Available Techniques (BAT) for Ukraine,” conducted a series of training sessions on the new procedure for issuing Integrated Environmental Permits (IEPs).
The five-day training for enterprises provided step-by-step guidance on completing permit applications, using the electronic Register of IEPs, and applying the conclusions of BAT. Separate sessions were organised for regional state administrations and civil society representatives, focusing on their role in reviewing applications, participating in public consultations, and ensuring transparent access to information. The training programme featured contributions from national experts, government agencies, as well as international specialists from the Czech Republic and OECD. Participants noted that the practical exercises and open discussions helped them better understand their responsibilities in the new permitting system. The introduction of IEPs to replace three separate permits (air emissions, water use, and waste management) marks a significant step toward reducing industrial pollution and aligning Ukraine’s environmental standards with the principles of the IED Directive 2010/75/EU.
The project “Best Available Techniques (BAT) for Ukraine” implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN).
