On April 14 and May 5, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine conducted mock sessions on Chapter 27: “Environment and Climate Change.” The Ukrainian Climate Office and the project “Support for the Establishment of an Emissions Trading Scheme in Ukraine,” in cooperation with partners, supported the Ministry in organizing and carrying out these training sessions.
Ukraine is preparing for one of the most complex parts of its EU journey, as each candidate country must align its laws with the EU’s before joining. A crucial part of the accession process are bilateral screenings. During these meetings, the candidate country must present its current state of legislative alignment with EU acquis and provide clear implementation plans with concrete timelines.
To get ready for this task, Ukrainian experts are currently undergoing through mock sessions. These sessions simulate real-life bilateral screening meetings between Ukraine and European Commission to help Ukrainian speakers refine their presentations, understand how best to convey key information, and strengthen their overall readiness for actual negotiations.
C4CA/Ukrainian Climate Office together with the IKI project “Support for the Establishment of an Emissions trading scheme in Ukraine” in cooperation with the implementing partners from Austria, Sweden and Lithuania and a number of other international experts as well as with the support of the Resource and Analysis Center “Society and Environment” supported the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine in organizing and conducting a series of two mock sessions on Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change on 14 April and on 5 May. The bilateral screenings for Ukraine will take place in June 2025. After the screening, the European Commission will prepare a report, that forms the basis for deciding whether negotiations can start on the relevant Cluster of Chapters.
