One of the main tasks of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine (MEPR) is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ukraine’s EU candidate status requires the introduction of an emissions trading system (ETS), a market-based tool developed to support mitigation goals.
On 27th November, about 100 representatives of business and government took part in a roundtable discussion, aimed at presenting work and plans of the MEPR on the way to the implementation of an ETS in Ukraine, as well as to discussing business readiness for its introduction and vision of the system’s design elements.
The event was organized by the MEPR, the IKI project “Support for the Establishment of an ETS in Ukraine”, and the World Bank’s “Partnership for Implementation of Carbon Markets” (PMI). It is planned that such discussions with businesses will be conducted on a regular basis.
