BMUV and OECD visit to Kyiv: Green recovery and climate change dialogue

In April 2025, Dr. Eva Kracht, Direc­tor-Gen­er­al for Inter­na­tion­al and Euro­pean Pol­i­cy, Fed­er­al Min­istry for the Envi­ron­ment, Nature Con­ser­va­tion, Nuclear Safe­ty and Con­sumer Pro­tec­tion (BMUV), with the par­tic­i­pa­tion of the Embassy of the Fed­er­al Repub­lic of Ger­many in Ukraine, vis­it­ed the GIZ Ener­gy and Cli­mate Clus­ter in Kyiv. The vis­it was part of the strength­en­ing of coop­er­a­tion in the field of envi­ron­men­tal pro­tec­tion, sus­tain­able devel­op­ment, Ukraine’s Euro­pean inte­gra­tion process­es and the cre­ation of the Ukrain­ian Green Recov­ery Plat­form (UGRP).

Dur­ing the vis­it, a series of impor­tant meet­ings were organ­ised. Dr. Eva Kracht (BMUV) met with rep­re­sen­ta­tives of NGOs (Cen­tre for Envi­ron­men­tal Ini­tia­tives “Ecodiya”, NGO “Ecology.Law.Human”, the Nation­al Eco­log­i­cal Cen­tre of Ukraine, the Youth Cli­mate Ini­tia­tive ROZVIY, the Infor­ma­tion Cen­tre “Green Dossier”, and the NGO “Eco­club” in Rivne), dur­ing which they dis­cussed impor­tant issues for Ukraine, includ­ing the envi­ron­men­tal impact of the war, the process of post-war green recov­ery, chal­lenges in the areas of cli­mate change and ener­gy, and Ukraine’s acces­sion to the EU.

Also, Dr. Eva Kracht (BMUV) and Max­i­m­il­ian Ton­ner (Embassy of the Fed­er­al Repub­lic of Ger­many in Ukraine) met with rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the GIZ Ener­gy and Cli­mate Clus­ter projects, with the par­tic­i­pa­tion of Krzysztof Micha­lak, Senior Pro­gramme Man­ag­er, OECD. At the meet­ing, part­ners and project man­agers of PROGRESS, EU4ClimateResilience, BAT, EEDL, UCO, ETS pre­sent­ed key project results, future plans and prospects for green recov­ery on the agen­da of the URC (Ukraine Recov­ery Con­fer­ence) 2025 in Rome, Italy.

A key aspect of achiev­ing these nation­al cli­mate tar­gets will be ensur­ing that best-avail­able tech­niques (BAT) are deployed in the country’s indus­tri­al infra­struc­ture.
